What is the condition of climate change impact in your country?

In Australia, we are strongly affected by drought and dry conditions in the South which affect our agriculture and water sources. Bush fires are getting worse every year and heat waves are becoming increasingly dangerous. In other parts of Australia we are strongly affected by cyclones, storms and flooding which cause a lot of damage. On top of that, the warming and acidifying ocean is killing the Great Barrier Reef, one of our national icons.

Are you satisfy with decision of cop 21?

I am glad that the world has made progress on climate change, and I am excited about the decision, but no I’m not satisfied. The pledges countries have made so far take us to a 3 degree warmer world, but we know that unless we stay below 1.5 degrees entire countries will not survive. This is unacceptable. There is so much work to be done.

What is the problem in negotiation between big and small country?

Big, rich countries have much more power over negotiations than smaller countries, who are often the worst affected by climate change.

How can people control temperature of earth?

By keeping fossil fuels in the ground.

In your country what’s the role of government and political party to combat climate change?

It is the responsibility of government and politicians to stop funding fossil fuels, to close down coal mines in Australia and to put funding into the transition to renewable energy.
